Birthday week!

Prince George turned 2 this week!

He started his special day by waking me up at 2am growling at himself in the mirror😆 Something he hasn't done before and luckily, hasn't since.

He had his first visit to a new groomer this week but other than that, I've tried to make it relaxing and fun!

We took a doggy cake to share with his daycare buddies which went down well.

On his birthday, he went on a Forest Adventure with daycare which he loves. He was so sleepy the next day. We had a work from home day and I barely noticed his presence, he was so calm and sleepy.

I made some homemade dog treats which George gets so excited about. I made the mistake of letting him in the kitchen with me (he is usually behind a baby gate) and now he wants to be in there all the time. So we'll go back to working on calm for this one!

He's now weaned off Fluoxetine and we have just started Sertraline (in addition to Gabapentin, Clonidine and Loxicom). I haven't noticed any negative side-effects yet.

His appetite has returned which is wonderful. Giving him his meds is so much easier. Not to mention training is more fun.

He does seem to be a bit more clingy than usual. He had a regression with separation anxiety training so I paused it for a day which accidentally turned into a few days. So I need to restart that this week.

He also seems to be more playful. I am wondering if that is related to pain relief.

We finished the week with a lovely walk in a local cemetery with my friend and her dog. George does well there. It is quiet and has a good line of sight so we are able to create distance easily. He also always does better when we are walking with others.

I had hoped that by the time he turned 2, we would have made more progress with his reactivity. I kept reading that it is much easier to "fix" issues while they are young. Although some sources stated by 3 years old so perhaps I have another year!

I reminded myself that I need to work with the dog in front of me and meet him where he is.

For birthday week, we're just celebrating all the wonderful things that make George special.
